The 7 Best Places for Downtown Houston Engagement Photos

For soon-to-be newlyweds planning to take their engagement photos in Houston, the list of locations is just as diverse as the city itself! From The Woodlands to Sugar Land and even Galveston, the Greater Houston area offers so many beautiful backdrops to make your engagement photos special like no other. We’ve already talked about why Hermann Park is great for engagement photos, so this time we’ll go over the seven best locations for Downtown Houston engagement photos.

Eleanor Tinsley Park

Eleanor Tinsley Park is one of our favorite places for downtown Houston engagement photos

First up is Eleanor Tinsley Park, the lush, nebulous park just west of I-45. The main attraction that the park offers is a breathtaking view of the Houston skyline. This, combined with the manicured grass and sea of trees, make Eleanor Tinsley Park one of the premier photo locations in Downtown Houston.

Sabine Street Bridge

Not too far from Eleanor Tinsley Park is our next pick to take Downtown Houston engagement photos: The Sabine Street Bridge. Within walking distance of Eleanor Tinsley Park, the Sabine Street Bridge offers the same stunning view of the Houston skyline, but with an urban twist.

With its concrete, neoclassical design, and twentieth-century streetlight fixtures, Sabine Street Bridge engagement photos always have this special, almost cinematic look to them. Definitely add this quaint bridge to your list when scheduling your engagement photos.

Sesquicentennial Park

Sesquicentennial Park in downtown Houston is often overlooked for engagement pictures

Houston offers many great locations for engagement photos

Not too far east of the Sabine Street Bridge (about one mile flat) is the oft-overlooked Sesquicentennial Park. A five-minute walk from the Downtown Aquarium, Sesquicentennial Park features a brick walkway along Buffalo Bayou, lively greenery, park benches, and gazebos that are sure to be amazing backdrops for your Downtown Houston engagement photos.

But, if all that wasn’t enough to convince you, Sesquicentennial Park is also home to a beautiful, waterfall stairway in front of the Wortham Center—Cascade at The Wortham. If a private/secluded location in Houston is what you’re looking for, the Wortham Center waterfall should be at the top of your list.

Main Street/Market Square Park

Go downtown for great wedding photos

This entry is a two-for-one, meaning it’s an excellent choice for couples taking Downtown Houston engagement photos. First off, Main Street itself is a great backdrop for photo shoots, thanks largely to its twentieth-century architecture. Between the paved brick streets and more of those same iron street lights present at the Sabine Street Bridge, Main Street as a whole is a marvelous photo location in Houston.

Located towards the northeast end of Main Street is Market Square Park, a historic park with shops and walk-up restaurants connected by walkways. Filled with flowers, sculptures, and fountains, Market Square Park is a breath of fresh air amid the buzzing Downtown Houston atmosphere. As an added bonus, Market Square Park is also dog-friendly, so if you want to include your furry friends in your engagement photos, this is the place for you.

Saks Garage

For those wanting to give their engagement photos a more urban feel, the Saks garage offers a gorgeous view of the Houston skyline. To be fair, any parking garage in Downtown Houston also offers the same view of the city’s wonderful skyscrapers, however, the Saks garage on Capitol Street is the only one that actually allows photo shoots; the rest do not.

Sure, if you’re feeling bold, you can try your luck, but the Saks garage offers the same angles, with none of the hassle. No matter the time of day or even the weather, the views from atop the Saks garage are one-of-a-kind and make it one of the better photo locations in Downtown Houston.

Discovery Green

Discovery Green in Houston is one of our favorite places

Remember, planning a surprise proposal takes time and thoughtfullness.

Further east is perhaps THE premier park of Downtown Houston: Discovery Green. Flanked by the Toyota Center, the George R. Brown Convention Center, and plenty of elegant skyscrapers, this modern park offers a little bit of everything. Discovery Green is home to sycamore trees as far as the eye can see, iconic art installations like the Synchronicity of Color piece, walking trails, and even a farmers’ market and live music on occasion.

If you truly want to give your Downtown Houston engagement photos some variety, Discovery Green is the spot for you.

Graffiti Walls/Graffiti Park

Visit St. Emmanuel Street for colorful backgrounds

Graffiti Park is fun and vibrant

Downtown Houston is home to some incredibly noteworthy displays of street art, particularly all along St. Emanuel Street. Located just behind the George R. Brown Convention Center, St. Emanuel Street is home to colorful, marvelous murals, particularly at the intersections of St. Emanuel & Leeland and St. Emanuel & Bell.

These two intersections are home to the Graffiti Park and the Houston Graffiti Building respectively. Both spots are popular photo locations that showcase some of the finest street art in the entire city, and they’re primed to be colorful, urban backdrops if that’s the feel you would like your engagement photos to have.
