The 7 Most Special Places to Take Engagement Pictures in Houston
Houston is home to plenty of charming and alluring places to serve as the backdrop for an engagement photo session capturing your special moment. From unique urban architecture to fresh, verdant parks, it can be overwhelming trying to pick the perfect place. That’s why we’ve put together a list of the seven most special places to take engagement pictures around Houston.
1.Memorial Park

Tucked just inside the 610 loop lies Memorial Park, a more natural place to take engagement photos around Houston with a focus on conservation efforts. This focus means that pictures here will have a far more fresh, flourishing feel, allowing them to stand out and truly be unlike any other. Within the park’s vast borders are plenty of spots that would make for the perfect engagement photos, such as the beautiful Arboretum Lake and Hines Lake.
Or perhaps you’d prefer the Houston Arboretum, a massive, 155-acre nature sanctuary located on the west side of the park, which also has five miles of trails that are completely free to explore. No matter your choice, you should include the various biking and hiking trails that connect all of Memorial Park’s many attractions to each other.
2. Hermann Park

One of the most popular spots in town, Hermann Park has hundreds of acres of lush grass, the remarkable reflection pool, and, of course, the beautiful spiraling garden mount at Centennial Gardens. The mount stands at 30 feet tall and comes complete with a spiraling pathway to its peak, which is sure to provide couples with an unrivaled setting for their engagement photos.
Outside of the mount, Hermann Park also contains several other gardens that would make for some creative engagement photos. Among these are the arid garden for a more southwestern/desert-y feel and the always photogenic rose garden, which can make for some eye-popping, vibrant, romantic shots of you for your special occasion. It can be tough to find a secluded spot during the weekends, but all of the diverse backdrops make Hermann Park worth it.
3. Eleanor Tinsley Park

Eleanor Tinsley Park is rightfully regarded as THE place to take not just engagement photos but photos in general. Whether day, night, or sunset, Eleanor Tinsley Park has an amazing view of the always attractive Houston skyline. Of course, if you’d like your special moments to have a more natural landscape, there’s ample green space around to fill that role as well. We’re, of course, referring to the extensive greenway that spans the park.
In the west end of Eleanor Tinsley Park is the Rosemont Pedestrian Bridge, which provides a breathtaking view of the Houston skyline come nighttime, something that no other entry on this list really offers. The Rosemont Pedestrian Bridge is Houston’s take on Paris’ famous Pont des Arts, a.k.a. The Love Lock Bridge. Unfortunately, all of the locks previously placed on the bridge were removed by the city due to safety concerns, and as of 2020, it is illegal to place any new locks on the once-famous attraction. So, if you’ve always wanted to visit the romantic landmark, Rosemont Pedestrian Bridge is your new best bet.
4. South Boulevard

South Boulevard runs through Houston’s upscale Broadacres neighborhood near Rice University, and it’s where couples can find vibrant, red brick walkways covered by a canopy of breathtaking oak trees. For a brief period of time, photography on South Boulevard was banned by local residents before being overturned by the city of Houston. Homeowners in the area are still very protective of South Boulevard, so if you really want to take some exceptional photos, this is the place for you (if you dare).
5. Main Street Downtown

If the more urban, metropolitan aesthetic is what you’re looking for, Main Street in Downtown is hands down the best place to take engagement photos around Houston. At 4.3 miles long, Houston’s bustling heart, Main Street Downtown, is packed to the brim with options for couples to choose from. With spectacular skyscrapers in every direction, old-time-y iron street lights, and 19th-century architecture, there’s something for everyone.
Even better still, 301 Milam Street is home to Market Street Park, a lively, outdoor area in the middle of dozens of local restaurants and bars. Not only can these give your engagement photos an even more personal touch, but you can also grab a bite to eat after!
6. The Gerald D. Hines Waterwall

Though it has had many names, the Gerald D. Hines Waterwall has remained one of Houston’s most iconic photo spots. Standing at 64 feet tall (1 for each floor of the historic Williams Tower), the Waterwall will provide a seriously stunning and dramatic effect for any engagement photos, though the actual park is quite relaxing, especially at night. Better yet, thanks to its central location, a photoshoot at the Gerald D. Hines Waterwall will let couples pivot to another location with ease.
Or, if you don’t feel like going too far, couples can just turn around and have the aforementioned Williams Tower serve as a new backdrop with its own distinct feel.
7. Discovery Green

Last but not least, is Discovery Green, a 12-acre park packed right smack across from the George R. Brown Convention Center. The park itself is typically rife with people, food trucks, and occasionally live music performances, all surrounded by a walkway wrapped in mythical-looking sycamore trees. Discovery Green is also home to the famed Synchronicity of Color art installation, as well as many others.
Outside of the many photogenic spots in Discovery Green, the park is flanked by an equally impressive landmark in each direction. To the north lies Minute Maid Park, to the west rests the spacious Shops at Houston Center, and lastly, on the south sits Toyota Center. Much like the Gerald D. Hines Waterwall, Discovery Green’s status as one of the best places to take engagement pictures around Houston is enhanced due to the fact that it’s surrounded by other unique locations in Houston.
